Kyiv is the mother of all cities

Kyiv is the Ukrainian capital and one of the multi-million cities. It is governmental and cultural center situated in the northern part of the country. The Zhuliany and Boryspil airports (Kyiv) are connected with many European and Russian cities via direct flights. The city history has been lasting for 1,500 years. It is assumed that the pioneer settlements were located on the Kyiv territory in VI century. According to the legend the brothers Kyi, Shchek, Horyv, and their sister Lybid established this city. And the city was named on behalf of the elder brother.

The main city square is Maidan Nezalezhnosti located on the main street – Khreshchatyk. The city population is 2 888,470 residents. Kyiv is a popular destination among the tourists and travelers. It is welcoming all its guests.

It is impossible to go and see all the city sightseeing for one day. Thus, it is necessary to find the place for staying. There are many options: apartments on a per day basis, homestay, hostel, guest home, apartments, hotels. You can stay in a five-star world-class hotel, such as Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental, where cost per night is about 390 Euro. Or the one can choose more profitable Quality-Price combination – three-star hotel for 20 Euro+ per day.


The best low-cost option for traveling around the city is the underground railway. Moreover, there are no traffic jams that frequently occur in Kyiv. There are three lines of 65 km total length, 52 stations and three transit stations that solve the city transport issue for only 0.3 euro. The road public transport means are the buses, trolleybuses, trolley cars, cable railway that will get you to any corner of the city. Ticket price is 0.3 euro. The route taxis are going around the city in more than 200 directions, and the ticket price is about 0.09-0.3 euro. Of course, you may take a taxi, and it will cost app. 8 euro. The healthy lifestyle fans may rent a bicycle (about 1.8 – 7 euro per hour). Car rental is also available with extra bonus – free street parking, but only at the weekends.


Slimming diet and Kyiv are incompatible issue. We can not ignore the gastronomic abundance – varenyky (stuffed dumplings), zrazy (stuffed meat pie), borshch, kapustniak (cabbage soup), kulish (porridge with meat) etc. The average cost of standard dinner with no sea food dishes, but including basic alcohol beverage will be 9-11 euro in a middle price café. You may eat well for a reasonable price in such cafes as Puzata Hata and Dva gusia, with quality food and cheap dinners.


Budget for a week

It is easy to find here accommodation and meal options at a reasonable price. You can stay in a hostel, travel around by subway or public transport, eat out in the quality cheap cafes and spend for a week about 88 euro. If the budget allows, the one can stay in a trophy hotel, go around the city by taxi, eat delicious and expensive dishes that will cost 880 euro.


You can get a bunch of excitement just for free. For example, by visiting free museums. In 2017 in Kyiv the Software and Computer Museum was opened. There are many show pieces – from a logarithmic ruler to a space calculator. The museum is taking only one hall, but it is developing.
The State Polytechnic Museum is also for free. Two exhibition halls present the newly-designed products of car industry and technologies connected with going by air.

What else you can do in Kyiv

You can not ignore visiting Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the ancient Orthodox holy place. It is a unique monastery complex with no equal anywhere in the world. The monastery has preserved its original appearance. 14 Orthodox churches, 7 museums, friary and others. Lavra means “a street”, and only special monastery could be named so. The main value of Lavra is supposed to be Holy relicts of the saints. Today Lavra is divided into Upper part (the historical and cultural complex), and Lower part (the friary).

Kyiv is recognized as the cheapest city for the tourists and guest. It attracts for visiting by low prices and exotic entertainments. Moreover, the city is interesting for the recent Maidan revolution and as having been the Eurovision location.
